For a class project, we were tasked with creating a Fortnite map based on the fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, and it was to be split into three different missions. A traversal and combat-based mission to get to the woods, a fetch quest to gather flowers, and an escort mission to escape the belly of the Big Bad Wolf with Grandma.

For the first mission, my design thinking was to have the environment start out relatively calm, with lots of trees and buildings, but as you progress, things become more dangerous and mystical. Creature Spawners and thorns are placed throughout the path not only to act as a blocker and make sure the player stays on the intended path, but also as a bit of environmental storytelling to show the Wolf's dark influence on the land slowly taking it over the more powerful he becomes.

The second mission takes place in the woods and has the player gather 10 flowers to take to a shopkeeper who will open the way out. I wanted to make sure that the level always wraps back around to the final objective while still keeping the player engaged with a level that's a loop. Throughout the level are several combat and puzzle encounters that the player must deal with while grabbing the flowers. I used a lot of the magical purple trees to give the woods a mystical feel similar to the thorns from the first level, while also using certain elements like traps and the brute enemy to foreshadow the final mission.

The escort mission is within the Wolf's stomach, and the player has to escort Grandma to the end in 5 minutes or else they lose. My idea for the level was to call back to certain elements from the previous levels, which is why there are several thorns throughout the level on the walls and floors to show where they were coming from in the first level, as well as decayed plushes that belong to a character mentioned in the second level. The mission ends with a more powerful brute, which was previously fought in the second level.

One common thread throughout the levels is the inclusion of cutscenes that were made by me using Fortnite's editing tools and voice acting provided to us, and also includes an alternative ending depending on if you remember to carry a certain item with you for the entire game.
