Recently, I decided to create a multiplayer map within the Forge of Halo Infinite as a way to not only better understand the tools that Halo Studios provided to players but also to demonstrate my growth and understanding of 3D level design.

For a project in a previous class, we were asked to redesign the UI of a game of our choosing and I decided to go with the main menu of Halo Infinite. As an avid Halo fan, I am not a fan of the current design for the main menu in Infinite, and upon doing research, I learned that I am not alone in my thinking as the players I asked said that the menu is bland and clunky and lags so much that it made people, myself included, feel the need to check our internet connections.

The idea I decided on for redesigning the main menu was to create a more dynamic menu similar to games like BioShock Infinite and Star Wars The Clone Wars, where each menu section transitions to another set piece within the main setting. For my redesign, I set the menu in a Spartan Training Outpost where each menu option will transition the player to a different part of the outpost, such as an armory or a training simulation. I was also asked to incorporate a realistic design pivot into the wireframe. I settled on adding in-game advertisements to the menu that advertise things such as other Microsoft-published games, the battle pass, and the recent relaunch of 343 Industries as Halo Studios.

The reason I picked this project to show off is that while it isn't the nicest wireframe, it shows my passion for what I do and how I can look at games that I like and find ways to improve them while also showing how I can adapt to any curveballs thrown my way by executives.

When I look back on this project, I have fond memories of working on creating the wireframes and doing the research. I learned a valuable lesson in preparing for research: to try and ask for people in advance rather than ask them out of the blue. When I asked people randomly, they tended to be a bit more unprepared or potentially had something else going on soon and seemed to rush their interviews a bit, so I will remember to do next time, which I had done for the stakeholder interviews that I conducted. But this was a project that I attribute to giving me a deeper appreciation for UI/UX Design and made me realize that I have made the right decision to walk this path.
